Five Minute Friday: Weekday Cocktails

I recently took a poll on Instagram and Facebook about what you guys miss most when eating Whole30/Paleo and you overwhelmingly responded with alcohol and dessert! There’s no chocolate here today, but hopefully this one’ll satisfy the boozehounds.

I do occasionally indulge in some wine or cider, but for the other 90%, here are some of my super easy, but very tasty non-alcoholic beverages.

#MojitoMonday

Probably my most-frequently-consumed of the alcohol-free beverages, it’s also the easiest. You’ll just need a pint glass and some ice!

Fill with equal parts:
GT’s Mojito kombucha
Seltzer, sparkling water, or club soda
Garnish with mint or lime (optional).

Enjoy (not optional)!

Minted Honey Lemonade

This evolved from a hot nighttime beverage I love, but now it’s iced and stirred, with a little local honey to help fight the incoming allergies.

You’ll need a heat-safe container like a glass measuring cup (or just another glass), your actual drinking glass, a spoon, and plenty of ice.

12 oz hot water
1 tsp local-to-you honey
1 tbsp fresh lemon juice
Fresh mint leaves

Heat water to a low boil. In a heat-safe glass, combine 12 ounces of water, one teaspoon of honey, and one tablespoon of lemon juice. Stir vigorously until the honey has dissolved. Add a handful of ice to bring down the temperature. Taste and adjust to your preferences (I usually end up adding more lemon).

Fill a large glass with ice and a few mint leaves (use your thumbnail to put a few “scrapes” into your mint leaves to help release the oils). Pour your honey lemonade over the ice and mint leaves. Stir and enjoy!

Açai Mango Mix-Up

This is another ultra quick combo: Trader Joe’s sells single-serve frozen acai packets and there are several popular brands putting out delicious mango flavored gut-soothing ‘bucha and water kefir.

You’ll just need a glass for your drink and a small bowl of warm water to defrost the acai.

1/3 frozen açai pouch
8oz mango kombucha or water kefir
Splash of club soda/sparkling water

Fill a bowl with warm water and add the açai packet to defrost (5-7 minutes). Fill a glass about 2/3 full with your mango-flavored probiotic beverage of choice. Once the açai is mostly defrosted, cut a slit in the packet and add about 1/3 of the puree to your glass. Top with a splash of club soda.
